What's your competition? Who do you compete with?

Who do you compete with? In reality?
Let’s start by defining “Competition”:
The activity or condition of striving to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others.
This question may sound too obvious but is it really? Is it?
Do you live in a life where competition is your main thing target during the day? Do you keep competing in your work place?
What about when you are in the supermarket, trying to get first to the bakery section or the butcher, or the fridge area? Are you competing? Who are you competing with?
Say you are driving and you keep speeding up to be first in the traffic light so you don’t have to wait too long, are you competing?
You are waiting at the bus stop/ train station, and suddenly there is a group of people waiting to hop on the same transport as you, are you competing to be the first one? In this matter are you competing with them all?
You are in your workplace and you push yourself to be the best at a certain task so that your supervisor/manager see that you are incredibly fast and efficient and on top of it a total perfectionist, who are you competing with?
What if I tell you that all this competition is nothing more than a race in your mind, a race that you assumed you need to win no matter what, at any cost? And that “any cost” is defined in your mind as “competition”?
Why do you feel that you need to be in a constant competition with the world? Why do you need be the first one in the supermarket, or in the traffic lights, or why so you need to have that blessing from your boss?
Have you ever considered that all this can be solely related to the way you were raised? To your first emotions and feelings while still a child? Have you ever considered that healing could help you release his constant emotions that sometimes “drive you crazy” and make you do and say things that are not what you actually meant or feel?
Have you ever stopped to think about why do you need to be the best? Why do you need to be praised?
What will happen if you don’t? What will happen if you are not the first one in the traffic light? What will happen if someone step in front of you? How will you feel?
Will you feel less professional? Will you feel less person? What will happen?
I would like to challenge you to stop for a second and write down all the things that come to your mind when you think about all this? Ask yourself “How am I competing with?” And write down everything that comes to your mind, just write down, without thinking, without overthinking, no judgement. Simply write down in a paper and when you feel that there is nothing else to write down keep that piece of paper, have a break, grab a coffee, a tea, a glass of water, put some relaxing music on the background and read what you just wrote down. How do you feel? Is there anything you could change? Is there anything that you would add or amend?
Sometimes the help and support of a therapist can assist you in this and many other issues but for now stick with writing your feelings and let me know how you feel after that? Reflect on your statement.
Life can be full of flowers or sticks, whatever you decide to focus on will be the result.
